The Oscars are on March 12th this year which is less than 2 weeks away. If you’ve never watched the Oscars live before, this may be the year to begin a new tradition and even invite some friends over. I’ve gathered my best tips for hosting an Oscars watch party.
Communicate dress code
If you’re inviting guests to join you for your watch party, make sure to let them know what the dress code is. You can encourage guests to wear their best red carpet-outfits! Or if you’re going for a more casual vibe, ask them to dress in their best red carpet athleisure.
Plan activities
Some people are really into the Oscars (like me) but most aren’t. For those guests who don’t really care about the awards show, give them activities to keep them engaged. Print a prediction ballot and have them fill in what they predict to win each category. Give them a red carpet review and ask them to select the best and worst dressed. Play a game of Oscars bingo (usually The Academy releases bingo cards on Oscars Sunday) and see who can get bingo first!
Food
The Oscars are the Super Bowl of movies, but wings and pizza aren’t on the menu. The Oscars are a classier event, so try to create that atmosphere at home with fancier foods. Create a beautiful charcuterie board, or make dainty appetizers. But remember, this is a movie event, so don’t forget about popcorn!
Drinks
Pop the champagne (or sparkling grape juice)! Create a champagne bar by providing fruit juices and fruit garnishes so your guest can make their own custom mimosa. If your crowd likes cocktails mix some unique cocktails for the evening. Or keep it simple with red wine.
Have prizes
Give prizes to the winners of bingo and Oscars predictions! You could even order tiny Oscars statues to award to the winners.
Conclusion
Oscars night can be fun for all, even if it’s just trying to name all the celebrities in the background of a camera shot, or trying to figure out who’s a celebrity and who’s a seat filler. I hope these tips help you throw an excellent Oscars watch party!
